Mr. Gurdjieff: His achievement.

 
Mr. Gurdjieff had an enormous responsibility to
bring the ancient esoteric teaching from the east to the west.

    Yes he did, a door opening is the way I like to think about it. His interpretation was "I have good leather to sell, You must however, make your own shoes."
