You cannot just sit at the feet of a teacher, especially a real one.
His job is to disturb you.
Disturb your mechanical behaviour.
Teachers have to deal with a lot, the loneliness of being a "guru", even on the human level.
But also they have committed to the task and responsibility of sharing the work and helping
others to grow.
We can see from the books on Gurdjieff that he drove himself relentlessly.
This is the energy and effort it took for him to become conscious.
Plus an enormouse amount of personal suffering, certain students were allowed at rare
times to see for a few moments a master struggling with his role.
People returning to see him in Paris at the end of his life said that he had become sad.
Older.
